Divorce Overview
Helping You Choose the Right Path Forward
Every divorce is different. The legal process that works well for one family may not be the best option for another. Whether you have questions about the divorce process, your children, or your financial future, understanding your options is the first step toward making informed decisions.
At Frago & Lasswell, P.A., our attorneys help clients through every stage of the divorce process. We believe many families benefit from resolving disputes outside of the courtroom whenever possible. Our goal is to help you move forward with your divorce in a way that best fits your family’s needs.
Collaborative Divorce
Collaborative Divorce is an out-of-court process in which both spouses work with their own attorneys to negotiate a mutually acceptable settlement. The parties commit to resolving their differences through cooperation, open communication, and problem-solving.
When appropriate, neutral professionals such as financial specialists, mental health professionals, or child specialists may also participate to help the parties make informed decisions. Collaborative Divorce often provides greater privacy, more flexibility, and increased control over the outcome than traditional litigation.
Mediation
Mediation allows spouses to work with a neutral third party who helps facilitate discussions and encourages productive negotiations. The mediator does not make decisions for the parties or provide legal advice. Instead, the mediator helps the parties explore options and work toward mutually acceptable agreements.
Many people choose to have an attorney represent them during Mediation to provide legal advice, evaluate proposed agreements, and protect their interests throughout the process. Frago & Lasswell, P.A. also provides mediation services for divorcing parties.
Early Neutral Evaluation
Early Neutral Evaluation (ENE) is a Minnesota alternative dispute resolution process designed to help families resolve disputes early in a case. Depending on the issues involved, the process may focus on financial matters through a Financial Early Neutral Evaluation (FENE) or child-related issues through a Social Early Neutral Evaluation (SENE).
The evaluator provides objective feedback that helps the parties better understand how a court may view their case. This often encourages productive negotiations and can help resolve disputes before significant time and expense are invested in litigation. Frago & Lasswell, P.A. provides ENE services.
Finding the Right Approach for Your Divorce
Every family has different priorities, concerns, and goals. The right divorce process depends on your circumstances, your ability to communicate with your spouse, and the issues that need to be resolved. Our attorneys will explain your options, answer your questions, and help you determine the approach that best meets your needs.
Whether your divorce is resolved through Collaborative Divorce, Mediation, Early Neutral Evaluation, or negotiated settlement, Frago & Lasswell, P.A., provides experienced legal guidance every step of the way.
